MINI STATE CONFERENCE

We are having a Mini State Conference during the weekend of November 10-11!  Guests are invited to attend the opening reception at Peabody Auditorium on Nov. 10 from 12:30 to 2 PM which is free and open to the public.  Rooms are available at Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach for those staying over.  Creech and Chong are performing at the Peabody on Friday night but early arrivals may view the exhibition with the audience before 7 PM by entering on Wild Olive Avenue’s patio gate.  Of course, you are welcome to purchase tickets to see the boys who never grew up too.

On Saturday, November 10, from 10 AM to 2 PM members will gather in the Rose Room Gallery to have a discussion about the SAQA in Florida exhibition and techniques used as well as to acquire an understanding of how a fiber show is hung compared to a standard art show.  Dialog about what the PODS are doing will work into what members expect from SAQA.

Lunch will be on the premises with an open sandwich-bar lunch.  A show and tell will take place after lunch while area visitors are invited to view the show from 12:30 to 2 PM. Members may each present one piece of their own work.

After the Peabody closes at 2 PM, members may leave for home, go sightseeing, or join the representative and POD members at Atlantic Center for the Arts to continue discussions with perhaps a panel or open dialogue, followed by an early supper and a free lecture by Stetson University professor of art history Dr. Roberta Favis on the role of women in the arts.  The lecture will be open to members and area fiber artists as a benefit of membership.

There will be a fee for the dinner at ACA depending on the number of registrants. Rooms will be available at Atlantic Center for the Arts from Friday afternoon till Sunday morning at a cost of $67.50 (includes tax) per night.  There are three cabins available at $139 per night (includes tax). Go to www.atlanticcenterforthearts.org for more information about the facility and spaces available.

The exhibition is open only to fiber artists who belong to Studio Art Quilts Association.  You can learn more about the organization and become a member at www.SAQA.com.
